The Swingline Stack-and-Shred 600X Shredder With SmarTech ($2,499) is a large and heavy automobile, designed to see the shredding needs of a big department or a pocket-size to midsize role. It can automatically shred up to 600 sheets of newspaper; one time you've loaded the sheets, you close the chapeau, and the 600X will chew through it while you go about your business. You can even monitor the task on your mobile device (iOS or Android) with the gratis SmarTech Shredder app, which will let you know when the shredding is complete. The 600X costs a lot, just it's coin well spent if your business organization has heavy shredding demands.

Anatomy of a Paper-Hungry Behemoth

Controls on the front of the unit include physical buttons for On, Frontwards, and Reverse, and keys for the numbers 1 through iv for entering a passcode to open or lock the lid, a neat security feature if yous're concerned about others getting their hands on your documents. It's a cross-cut shredder, cut documents into narrow strips much shorter than the length of a sail of paper. Individual shreds measure about 1.6 by 0.17 inches, a bit larger than the Swingline 300X—which has a thread average of ane.3 by 0.14 inches—but nevertheless pocket-sized enough to be secure for non-confidential business concern documents.

I tried the app on both my iPhone 7 Plus and my iPad Pro; I had already installed it when testing the 300X, and it identified the 600X every bit before long as I turned it on.

The size of the bin is unlikely to be a meaning issue, equally few people are probable to fill the feeder to its total chapters, and you lot tin easily fit more than paper by leveling the mound of shred in the basket by hand—a trick that any frequent user is bound to learn anyhow.
